begin booking tours for Oct. 1, 2010 – May 31, 2011 (on a first come
basis via email). A confirmation will be sent to you.
- Eligibility-- All teachers MUST (no exceptions) complete Mine Experience Workshop (we can book a field trip contingent on the teacher completing our workshop) offered at the McCaw School of Mines. The workshop is offered on: Sat., Aug. 21 8 am- 12 noon. The workshop is 4-hours. A $20 deposit is required to hold your spot. The deposit is returned once you complete the workshop. Any teacher who completed the 2009 McCaw Mine Experience Workshop is already certified. Must email Holly Eighmy (via interact) for the registration form. Registration for the 2011 Mine Experience Workshop opens on July 15, 2010.
- Priority given to 4th grade classes (tour is geared to enhance the 4th grade Nevada history curriculum).
- 1 class maximum per field trip per day (approx. 30 students)
- All field trips are in the morning and last approximately 2 hours
- Work off the CCSD 9-month calendar
- 4-6 chaperone limit
- McCaw School of Mines Foundation reimburses your school for the CCSD bus fee up to $110 for schools that are unable to pay for their own buses.
- We appreciate any school that can afford their own buses to pay for their own. Buses need to be booked by September 20 to guarantee a confirmation from CCSD Transportation.
Volunteer Opportunities at the Mine!
We are in need of adult docents. If you know of someone who would be interested in volunteering at the Mine 1-5 days a week from 9:30-12 noon, October 1-May 30, please have them contact Clark Abrams, Docent Coordinator, at 558-4997. No experience necessary, scripts are provided and schedules are very flexible.
