Our Historical Journey
1931-1945
The Early Mining Era
The construction of the Basic Magnesium Plant transformed Henderson from barren desert into a bustling mining town. This facility became vital to the war effort, producing magnesium for military aircraft during World War II.
1950-1980
Expansion and Innovation
A period of exponential growth with the implementation of modern mining technology. Mining operations expanded, creating thousands of jobs and attracting families from across the country to build a thriving community.
1990-2000
Transition and Preservation
As commercial operations began to wind down, the community shifted its focus to preserving the rich mining heritage. Initiatives were launched to document history and educate future generations.
2010-Present
McCaw School of Mines
